Terms of Use

Ascend: Recovery Companion · Last updated 29 August 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and VAN DUNG LE, an individual trading as Ascend ("we", "us"), of Flat 149 Marner Point, 1 Jefferson Plaza, London E3 3QE, United Kingdom, for use of the Ascend: Recovery Companion app. By using the app you accept them.

Ascend is not medical care

Ascend is a self-help tool. It is not medical or psychological advice, not a diagnosis, not treatment, and not a substitute for a qualified professional. The AI Companion is not a therapist, doctor or counsellor. Ascend is not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking of harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line now — 988 in the US, the Samaritans on 116 123 in the UK and Ireland, or your local equivalent.

You must be 18 or over

Ascend is an adult product: it discusses adult material and adult sex. You must be 18 or over to use it. The app asks for your year of birth on first launch and will not let you continue if you are under 18.

Your account

Your account is anonymous by default and tied to your device. If you do not link an email address, losing the device means losing your history — we have no way to identify you and restore it. You are responsible for keeping access to your device and to any email address you link.

Ascend Premium

Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms, not by us.

Site blocking

Site blocking installs a DNS configuration profile and filters through a third party (NextDNS). It is a deliberate speed bump, not a security control: it can be turned off in Ascend or in iOS Settings, it does not cover every network path, and it will not stop a determined attempt to get around it. Do not rely on it as your only safeguard. See the privacy policy for what NextDNS receives.

Acceptable use

Do not use Ascend unlawfully, attempt to break or probe its security, or try to extract other users' data. Do not use the Companion to try to generate illegal material.

Content you write

Reflections, notes, letters and plans you write remain yours. You grant us only the permission needed to store and display them back to you, and to operate the features you use. The one exception is anything you choose to publish to the community feed, which is covered below.

The community feed

Ascend has an optional community feed. Posts are anonymous and are deleted after 48 hours. Anything you publish there — including any short line of text you add, and any reaction or comment you leave — is visible to other people using Ascend. You grant us the permission needed to display it to them for as long as it exists.

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour here. Specifically, do not post anything that is harassing, hateful, threatening, sexually explicit, that identifies or targets another person, that promotes self-harm, or that is unlawful. Do not post anything designed to sell, recruit or solicit.

Every post carries a Report action, and every comment can be reported the same way. A single report immediately hides the post from everyone's feed, before any human looks at it. We review reports and aim to act on them within 24 hours, removing content and, where warranted, permanently removing a user's ability to post.

You can also report a user's content and hide it from your own feed at the same time. If you want to raise something with us directly, email support@ascendrecovery.app; we read every message.

Apple

This agreement is between you and us, not with Apple, and we — not Apple — are solely responsible for Ascend and its content.

Availability

We aim to keep Ascend working but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service, and features may change or be withdrawn.

Disclaimers and liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ascend is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for any outcome of relying on the app in place of professional care. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

Ending these terms

You may stop using Ascend at any time and delete your data from Settings → Delete my data. We may suspend access for a serious or repeated breach of these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and its courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction. This does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law where you live.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date above will change and material changes will be noted in the app. Continuing to use Ascend after that means you accept the update.
